Philosophy

After working in the hustle and bustle of a big city, Jade Dumrath moved from Toronto to the west coast in search of some calm and creative clarity. Worthy Maker is an opportunity for exploration, creative expression, and imperfection. The name Worthy Maker was chosen to act as a reminder that an artist’s worth is not related to what or if they create. Jade’s attention to detail and craftsmanship of each piece and sourcing of quality materials and tools is a true source of pride and passion in her business.

Jade believes we are worthy of beauty, joy, and belonging. We are worthy of surrounding ourselves with carefully crafted and beautiful objects that spark joy. Worthy Maker pieces are inspired by Jade’s Scandinavian heritage, with specific reference to the importance of creating and investing in quality objects that enhance the everyday life experience.  By combining traditional and contemporary craft and design processes and materials, Jade strives to create dynamic objects that are both functional and aesthetically enhancing. Every object made in the Worthy Maker studio is hand forged and formed using quality materials such as hard wood, brass, copper, and sterling silver. For an elegant, long-lasting finished product, each piece is then plated in 18K gold or sterling silver.

Worthy Maker acts as a platform to design + create without boundaries.

Jade is now sourcing and using 100% recycled content in her Sterling Silver pieces. Worthy Maker’s ECO packaging is sourced from environmentally friendly materials and recycled content. Jade continue’s to search for more sustainable materials, packaging, and practices such as substituting her plating chemicals with cyanide-free and environmentally friendlier solutions.

Before Worthy Maker

Before moving her life and studio to the west coast, Jade Dumrath was awarded a Design residency opportunity at the Toronto Harbourfront Centre where she was able to explore her creative relationship between Jewellery/Metalsmithing and Product Design. Prior to Jade’s Design Residency, she worked as a Junior Product Designer for the Canadian home goods design company, Umbra Ltd.

Jade completed a BFA majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing at NSCAD University in 2014 with a self directed minor in Product Design. Worthy Maker allows Jade to connect back with her passion for metalsmithing techniques and materials while continuing to explore her increased interest in the relationship between traditional and contemporary, handmade and machined, and craft and design. Jade is grateful to have a studio in a stunning landscape such as the BC mountains, where she can find inspiration in every nature walk and hike through the landscape of Squamish, BC and the surrounding areas.
